How do I best make my
Clean wooden floor?

A parquet floor adds warmth and character to your home. Whether you choose solid wood or engineered parquet, it is a durable floor that can last for decades with proper maintenance. But how do you keep your parquet floor truly clean and beautiful without damaging it? In this blog, you will read step-by-step how best to tackle this.

1. Dust regularly

Dust, sand, and small stones are the biggest enemies of parquet. They act like sandpaper and can cause scratches.

Tip:

  • Use a soft broom or a vacuum cleaner with a parquet brush.

  • Avoid hard brushes or wheels without rubber.

  • Vacuum or sweep at least 2 to 3 times a week, depending on how much is walked.

2. Damp clean (not wet!)

Wood and water are not friends. Yet, you have to mop occasionally to get the parquet floor truly clean. The key: use as little water as possible.

Here's how you do it:

  1. Use a slightly damp mop or microfiber cloth.

  2. Mix a little pH-neutral parquet cleaner with lukewarm water (never all-purpose cleaner!).

  3. Mop along the grain of the wood.

  4. Let the floor dry thoroughly – open windows for ventilation if necessary.

💡 Extra tip:
Always wring out your mop well — it should only feel slightly damp.

3. Use the right cleaning products

Not every cleaning product is suitable for parquet.

  • Do not use ammonia, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — they can damage the protective layer.

  • It is better to choose a special parquet cleaner that matches your floor finish (oil, lacquer, or wax).

If necessary, ask the supplier which brand they recommend.

4. Protection and prevention

Prevention is better than cure:

  • Place felt pads under chairs and furniture.

  • Use doormats at entrances to keep dirt out.

  • Avoid stiletto heels and wheelchair wheels without rubber.

5. Maintenance by type of finish

Not every parquet floor is the same.

  • Lacquered parquet: simply remove dust and clean with a slightly damp cloth.

  • Oiled parquet: re-treat regularly with maintenance oil.

  • Waxed parquet: re-wax occasionally for a protective layer.

6. Deep cleaning or refresh

Has your parquet floor become dull or does it have stains? Then a professional deep cleaning or re-oiling/lacquering may be necessary.
Have this done by a parquet specialist — this way your floor remains in top condition.
